The “Casa Capmany“ project is a prototype of an English style house. Normally, we would carry out a comprehensive renovation of this type of home, but in this case, the essence of this house has been preserved to the fullest.
Its distribution, structure, windows and façade are some of the elements that we have enhanced to give them full weight, using them as both differentiating and decorative elements.
On the ground floor we can observe ceiling vaults with wooden joists, which are preserved, reinforced and painted, giving them prominence and connection with the access to the house whilst highlighting the corridor and as well with the kitchen space and dining room area.
The façade also becomes important in this project, since it is a protected urban element.
The location and shape of the façade windows of the whole house have been preserved and restored to maintain the house’s character. In the rear façade the windows have been replaced due to deterioration of the existing ones but always keeping the proportions of the existing gaps.
The staircase is also an element that is intended to be preserved, replacing only its ceramic pieces due to their poor condition, but maintaining the original railing and the wooden top of the steps.
On the first floor we create a new bathroom and a dressing room that serves the two existing double rooms. While retaining its essence with all interior carpentry (doors) and façade windows.
Finally, the contribution of natural light to the center of the house is achieved by creating a side skylight, through the outdoor terrace on the first floor which did not require any modification to the roof.
